TIPS TO MAINTAIN YOUR SYSTEM HEALTHY AND ERROR FREE.

Maintaining your computer is the key to keeping it healthy and fully working and of course, fast. Windows 95 has most of the tools for maintaining your PC, but Windows 98 extends the possibilities and makes it even less of a hassle. If you follow the list below and run the programs listed frequently, you will be guaranteed to have a maintained computer at no extra cost. There are, however, other programs in the market with stronger engines, but then again, they’re not free (stop smiling…)Most of these programs can be found under the Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools folder.

1. Disk Defragmentation: It is advisable to run Defragmentation under Windows 95 once a month or when you add/remove programs. However, under Windows 98, you can run it every week if you want because it has a new engine, which means that the more you run it, the faster your computer will get. What happens is that your programs are placed on your hard disk in a way so that the ones you use most often are easier for the hard disk to find and run. Make sure that the ‘make my programs run faster’ is ticked in the ‘Settings’ window in Defragmentation.

2. Scan disk: Running a thorough check is good once a month in both Windows 95 and 98. Run this once a month if you feel that your hard disk takes a long time to load programs. A standard check is very fast and checks for basic disk problems concerning files and folders and lost fragments. It takes an average 2 minutes to complete so try running it often.

3. Disk cleanup: This one is good for seeing how much disk space is being used up by unnecessary files that…
are in the recycle bin, temp folder, or in temporary internet folders. You can then remove them!

4. Reg Clean: A simple but effective piece of software this is. You can download it for free from Microsoft’s web site. It is also available on many magazine cover disks. Reg Clean takes about a minute to check the registry. Then it asks whether you want to clean out redundant or orphan file. This usually helps the computer to get rid of files that have been left behind by uninstalled programs.

5. Windows update: It’s a good idea to use Windows Update to make sure your computer has all the latest fixes, patches and updates. You can do so by clicking on its icon in the Start Menu under Windows 98.

NOTE:-Don't update your windows if its not original.

Speed Up Pendrive-Data Transfer

Mainly, Data transfer from Pc to Pendrive or vice-versa depends on factors:-

  1. The type of files you are transferring. Normally Audio , Video files , Documents and Pictures are transferred at a faster rate than games or .iso files.
  2. The age of the Pendrive. If your pendrive is old then it is normal that the data transfer will take longer than normal.
  3. The version of the Usb hub and the Pc. Prndrives these days normally come with the USB 3.0 or 2.0 but we have the USB 1.1 port version  in the computers/Laptops which slow down data transfer.
HOW TO SPEED UP YOUR PENDRIVE DATA TRANSFER

  1. First step is to check whether our pendrive can transfer a single file greater than 4 Gb(for 8 gb+ pendrives). While formatting your pendrive choose NTFS from the dropdown. Check the properties for any of your Hard disk , it will have a NTFS file system. So while formatting the Pendrive choose NTFS file system to transfer large files and increase transfer speed.

  2. Check for Disk Errors.
Under the Properties Tab of your Pendrive click on "Tools" and then click on "Check Now" for a disk analysis. The process may take some time depending on the data stored in your pendrive and the default space of it.

   3. Under Pendrive Properties Tab click on hardware select your usb device and click on properties. A              new window will pop up , click on change settings in that. Now move on to Policies Tab and click on Better Performance and click on OK.

Now be amazed with the speed your pendrive data transfer takes place.

OTHER ALTERNATIVES

Use Teracopy for faster transfer. Pro version of this software is available. The key for it will be posted in the next post.

As an other alternative you can replcae your computer's usb from 2.0 to 3.0 which will cost you around 25$.

Hope you liked this post.

How to Stop Unexpected Shutdown in Windows

Stop an unexpected Shutdown

Lets take a quick glance through a situation many of us face daily.
Imagine you are working on your blog or doing some work on Microsoft Office and suddenly your Antivirus or any System Software pops-up a dialog box asking you to restart the system and you accidentally click on it or in most cases system shuts down automatically after some update or maintenance.
In such a case all your unsaved work is lost and some of your open apps are closed and system completes a shutdown.

Let me tell you a thing - " There is a simple Trick to help you in this scenario".
Great isn't it?
There are two method's to do this - The difficult one and the easy one!

The Difficult one

Press Windows Key + or right click on the start button and choose "Run" from the dialog box that appears.
The Run Wizard opens-
Run Wizard

Type the following code in the box -

Code in Run Wizard
Now Hit Enter.
The system wont shutdown.
But this method is too time consuming and the system will probably shutdown before you do this.
So lets go for the Easy one!

The Easy one

Go to your Desktop.
Right click and select New and then select Shortcut.
Creating a Shortcut

Now type in the earlier code in the location and create a shortcut.
Typing Location of the Shortcut
Name your Shortcut
Give the shortcut a name of your choice and choose an icon of your desire.
Stop Shutdown Icon
Next time when your system shuts down unexpectedly click on the shortcut immediately and rescue yourself from a dire situation!

Thank You!

Comment your valuable response.
